The equipment accountability gap in military operations

Military equipment accountability is both an operational requirement and a compliance obligation. High-value tactical equipment, communications gear, weapons systems, and specialized assets all require documented chain of custody from assignment through return, service, and disposition. When that accountability runs on unit-level spreadsheets or manual logs, the record is fragmented, incomplete, and difficult to produce under time pressure.

Command reviews and property accountability inspections require documentation that spans multiple units and multiple assignment cycles. When equipment moves between units, goes out for service, or is transferred across installations, the trail needs to follow it. Manual systems cannot maintain that continuity at scale.
